Day of Event Volunteer Descriptions
- All of the collection areas (plastics, batteries, donations) involve receiving materials from the public and ensuring they meet the published criteria for acceptance. Training will be provided on the day of event.
- Working in the Free Table (Swap) area entails greeting people, receiving acceptable donations, placing them out on tables for display, helping "treasure hunters" find what they are looking for, and keeping the area organized and tidy.
- Master Recyclers working at information and demonstration tables can use their own kit or borrow one from Washington County.
- Traffic control involves asking participants questions on what they are bringing to the event, and/or directing traffic. Safety vests are required and will be provided.
- PlanetConcierge volunteers rove the venue, helping attendees (and fellow volunteers). Examples include helping attendees carry their items to collection areas with carts, giving directions; answering general questions; stepping in to help where needed.
- Spanish Interpreters rove the event helping with translation as needed for Spanish language speakers.
- Leadership positions (Area Captains) involve training your group on the tasks, ensuring they get a break during the event, and ensuring your area is running smoothly.
- Costumed outreach involves roaming the area, interacting with attendees, answering questions, and posing for photos,
- Volunteer hospitality involves setting up the volunteer refreshments, replenishing supplies, and keeping the area tidy.
- Day of event hauling involves helping to load and unload your vehicle, as well as driving to the destination.
- Setup and Teardown will mainly occur outside and involves placing signage, tents, and hauling supplies to and from vehicles.
- Repair fair volunteers register items for repair as they arrive. Skilled fixer volunteers are needed to fix the items.
Pre-Event Volunteer Descriptions

- PlanetCon planning team members meet bi-weekly to plan the event.
- Website design and maintenance is needed for planetcon.org
- Social media volunteers help with publishing content on Facebook and Instagram related to PlanetCon or sustainability topics.
- Poster/flyer distribution entails asking businesses permission to post PlanetCon posters in the weeks prior to an event and installing the posters if approved.
- Making event features includes creating event signage, costumes, or other creative items.
- Create a Master Recycler outreach display on a theme of your choice.
