PlanetCon: June 2018

 The 2nd PlanetCon event was held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at St. Alexander's Catholic Church in Cornelius, OR. In addition to recycling and a school clothing and supplies swap, information tables were available on a number of topics related to sustainable living and local resources.

• M&M Marketplace for helping with us with tables for our swap area
• Clyde from 350 Washington County for providing truck transportation for batteries and styrofoam
• City of Cornelius for advertising and traffic logistics
• Cornelius Fred Meyer for accepting the plastic film 
• Cornelius Human Bean for donating coffee to the volunteers
•  Computer Drive Connection in Cornelius for accepting the computers and electronics
• All the volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the event
• Washington County Solid Waste and Recycling for their time and expertise
• Joe and the Wheel Monkeys for providing wonderful music
• La Vida Veggie food cart for being there to sell their delicious food

​220 vehicles dropped off recycling throughout the 3 hour event. Below is the collection summary.

• about 40 yards of polystyrene (styrofoam) were recycled at Agilyx in Tigard
• 12 giant bags of plastic bags/film were recycled for Trex Decking products
• 1083 pounds of batteries were recycled (alakaline, lead acid, rechargeable, lithium, and button batteries)
• 2200 pounds of appliances and electronics were recycled, including 10 TVs and 7 computer monitors
• about 500 tires (6 tons or 12,000 pounds)  were collected for recycling
• Items from the swap which were not picked up by the end of the event were donated to local nonprofits Virginia Garcia and Community Action.
• Donated food was delivered to Virginia Garcia in Cornelius
