PlanetCon January 2018
Our first PlanetCon event was held on Saturday, Jan 6th, 2018 at Lincoln Street Elementary School in Hillsboro, OR. In addition to recycling and a holiday decor swap, information tables were available on a number of topics related to sustainable living: repair fairs, worm bins, food waste prevention, reducing paper towel waste, and general recycling. The Nature Conservancy, 350 Washington County, and Recycling Advocates were 3 non-profits who attended to share sustainability information.
The event was successful and brought in about 300 people. Below is the summary.
The event was successful and brought in about 300 people. Below is the summary.
- 90 yards of polystyrene (styrofoam) were recycled at Agilex in Tigard
- 319 pounds of non-working holiday lights were recycled for the metal through Far West Recycling
- 86 Hefty size trash bags at approximately 437 pounds of plastic bags/film were recycled for Trex Decking products
- 21 bags of winter clothing were donated to Family Promise of Beaverton for a total of approximately 210 pounds.
- There is no count of how many holiday items were brought in for the swap. Many items came and went to happy treasure hunters. Only a handful of bags were left at the end of the event.
